The fine print does not say you have to be connected to the internet for the machine to save the movie titles for each DVD. The older model did not need access to internet…. it read the DVD for info.

We bought this mostly so our kids wouldn’t keep going through the movie collection and scratching them. Once we hooked up the carousel to the internet it was great to have all our movies titles, actors…info show up on screen. Love that it plays reg DVDs and Blue-Ray.

What attracted me to this product was the ability to clean up my video collection and make it very accessible. I was able to store 4 albums of DVDs in this changer and still had room for additional dvds/blu rays. Loading and labeling my back-up copys of DVDs was a little time consuming since Gracenote doesnt recognize blank media discs, only manufactured origional dvd copies. The onscreen interactive menu is very cool. No more getting up searching through my albums to find that movie. The unit itself was a little bigger than I imagined,as it is something you want to sit on top of your cable box or surround sound unit. Very quiet operation and sleek look. I am very glad I bought this unit.

I was upgrading from my old 301 disk player that was starting to not load disks. The old player, I had to manually enter almost every movie in…unless it was a Sony movie and happened to have a recognized jacket picture and what not.
I pulled the old unit out, ran an internet to that location, put the new unit in, took all the disks out of the old one and put them in the new one. I hit load…and went to bed. Next day there were 3 movies / CDs not recognized. Two videos that were recordings of school plays that my daughter was in, and a CD that was recognized incorrectly.
The incorrectly recognized CD…when I hit the button to edit, gave me some choices…one was the correct CD.
The two others were kind of a pain to enter because there is no keyboard input and it doesn’t appear that this unit has a web interface…yet!
Still…I have to say AWESOME!
I do feel there should be a web interface (with security…can only be gotten to from an internal address or something). That would be a nice feature.
Also…the disks do take a bit longer to load when you select them from the menu.
Still…I do not have to get up…and it only takes a minute to load.
What a treat this unit is.
Sony…keep it up!
Also…it was a resonable deal on Amazon (Best Buy wanted over a hundred bucks more!).

Gracenote returned invalid title, date, and actor name for Stagecoach with Kris Kristofferson – returned John Wayne 1937, failed to recognize Underworld: Evolution, couldn’t return actual title and actor for several James Bond DVDs. As one review noted loading is slow. With Component and BD video setup, always get BD when DVD is not Blu-Ray so you have to switch to Component Video on the receiver. There maybe a setup solution but it’s not obvious.
